Day 1 - Introduction to the Concrete Industry

• Properties of Concrete. (An overview of materials used in concrete - cement, aggregates, water and admixtures)
• Concrete Production. (A summary of the important aspects of NZS 3104:2021)
• Concrete Construction. (Construction practice issues from NZS 3109:1997)
• Concrete Testing. (An overview of fresh and hardened concrete testing NZS 3112:1986)

Day 2 - Concrete Testing

• Carry Out Routine Tests on Fresh Concrete (Unit Standard 26053)
  • Testing Fresh Concrete
  • Review of Sampling Fresh Concrete
  • Slump Test (practical demonstration of competency)
  • Yield and Air Content Tests (practical demonstration of competency)
  • Review of Spread Test
• Carry Out Routine Tests on Hardened Concrete (Unit Standard 26063)
  • Methods of Testing Hardened Concrete Making Cylinders
  • Hardened Density - measurement by water suspension method (practical demonstration of competency)
  • Compressive Strength (practical demonstration of competency)
  • Review of Splitting and Flexural Tensile Strength
