The Learned Society Council welcomes you to 2025 and extends an invitation to Society members to attend its upcoming series of four 'Lunch & Learn' webinars based around video recordings of the 2019 Strut & Tie seminar.

Presented by Rick Henry (Associate Professor - University of Auckland) and Des Bull (Technical Director - Holmes NZ LP), the webinars will cover:

  • Strut and tie modelling theory and its use to design complex regions of concrete structures.
  • Concepts for simple and practical strut and tie models for different concrete members.
  • Use of strut and tie as a tool to observed performance including failures in concrete structures.
  • Strut and tie design compliant with NZS 3101.
  • Examples of the use of strut and tie for real scenarios.

Across four consecutive Friday lunchtimes (12:00pm – 1:30pm) starting 21 February, the online format will see attendees watch a video recording of a Strut & Tie seminar session (approx. 1-hour) followed by a live Q&A with the presenter.
