Entries Now Open for 2025 Concrete Industry Apprentice of the Year

Tuesday, 5 August 2025

Concrete NZ, in partnership with BCITO, is calling for entries to the 2025 Concrete Industry Apprentice of the Year award.

With a $10,000 prize pool and national recognition on offer, the award celebrates the skill, drive, and future leadership of apprentices across New Zealand’s concrete industry.

Concrete NZ Chief Executive Rob Gaimster says the award continues to shine a light on the importance of developing talent in an industry central to the country’s resilient and low-carbon future.

“We’re proud to acknowledge the next generation of concrete professionals - those who show commitment not only to their trade, but to lifting standards across the industry,” says Gaimster.

“Concrete offers exciting, hands-on career pathways. Whether you're placing concrete on a residential development, cutting concrete at a commercial site, or operating a batching plant, we want to recognise those showing excellence and potential.”

The 2025 award is open to anyone currently enrolled in, or who has completed (after August 2024), one of the following BCITO concrete qualifications:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Construction Skills (Level 3)
  • New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Construction: Commercial and Civil Infrastructure (Level 4)
  • New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Specialist (Level 4)
  • New Zealand Certificate in Concrete Production (Level 4)

Membership of Concrete NZ is not required to apply.

Greg Durkin, BCITO Director, notes BCITO is dedicated to supporting talented people that shape the future of New Zealand's construction industry.

“With over three decades of experience in training successful apprentices, we are proud to see people excel.”

“The Concrete Industry Apprentice of the Year award signifies exceptional practical ability and industry knowledge - qualities that are essential for the future success of the concrete industry.”

Concrete apprentices, their employers and assessors must all complete an entry form.
